Almost anyone willing to be a consistent and caring role model to a child can be a Big Brother. Volunteers must submit to a thorough screening process that includes a background check, character references check, and a personal interview. Individuals interested in mentoring must also be enrolled in high school or over 18 years of age, depending on the program. Volunteers must possess a driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation if they anticipate driving with the child.
A commitment to serve for one year is also expected. The organization’s goal is to keep children paired with mentors for a minimum of one year. Volunteers should be available to meet with the child they’re matched with two to four times a month.
